Our mission is to promote Mattapan Square as a culturally and economically rich commercial district in collaboration with community residents, business owners, property owners, volunteers, and other stakeholders by focusing on design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion. We do this work through committeesar dapibus leo.
DESIGN & REVIEW
The Design and Review Committee shapes and creates an inviting environment for all. Taking advantage of the square’s physical characteristics envisioned by Mattapan Square Main Streets, and the Mattapan community it pays attention to all of its physical elements: public and private buildings, storefronts, signs, public spaces, parking areas, street furniture, public art, landscaping, merchandising, window displays, and promotional materials. Design activities include instilling good maintenance practices, enhancing Mattapan Square’s physical appearance through the rehabilitation of historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing design management systems, educating business and property owners about design quality, and long-term planning
ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING
Economic restructuring strengthens the economic assets while diversifying the economic base of the square. This is accomplished by retaining and expanding successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners, and attracting new businesses that the community can support. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost the profitability of the square. The goal is to build a commercial and cultural district that responds to the needs of the community.
PROMOTION
Promotion takes many forms, but the goal is to create a positive image that will make Mattapan Square a destination location. Advertising, retail promotions, special events, and marketing campaigns help sell the image and promise of Mattapan Square to the community and surrounding region. Promotions communicate Mattapan Square’s unique characteristics, business establishments, and activities to shoppers, investors, potential business and property owners, and visitors.
SAFETY
Mattapan Square is a vibrant community full of people coming to the square daily to shop, meet with friends and eat. More than 12,000 people get on or off a bus daily and twice as many people drive through the square. With the hustle and bustle of the daily square activities it is important to ensure the safety of all. The purpose of the Safety Committee is to ensure the safety of the community, residents, and businesses. We believe that Mattapan Square should be a safe walkable community
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors is the governing body of Mattapan Square Main Streets overseeing finances, and sets the direction and drives the overall mission. It establishes consensus and cooperation by building partnerships among the various groups that have a stake in Mattapan Square. By getting everyone working toward the same goal; providing effective, ongoing management and advocacy for the square. Through volunteer recruitment and collaboration with partners representing a broad cross section of the community, your program can incorporate a wide range of perspectives into its efforts.
